Fairview Horse Center Show Results
It is with great pleasure that we report the first results of the 2000 show season for Wildest Expectations Farm...

I'dbedelighted, our coming 4 year old Selle Francais Mare, competed in the Dressage Schooling Show at Fairview Horse Center in Haymarket, VA. This was her 3rd under saddle show. She has competed intensively in-hand since she was about 2 months old, with under saddle classes added to the mix in her 3 year old year for Suitability to Become a Dressage Horse.

In her first class she placed 6th of 8 in training level test 1. Her score was a 56.81%. This was after about 10 minutes of warm-up due to a half twisted off shoe hurriedly replaced at the last minute. (Have you ever tried to find a ferrier on a Sunday morning when you have no time to spare? We were pleased with her attitude). Some of the judges comments were: "accurate", "good energy behind", "active and forward", "some good energy", " A lovely horse!" Her highest single marks were 2 '7's' in 'medium walk' and 'working trot'..

In her second class she placed 1st in the training level test 2. Her score was 65.83%. By then she had had sufficient warm-up time and she showed herself much better. Some of the judges comments were: "straight and square", "nice balance and bend", "marching nicely", "active, ground covering, clear transitions", "bending nicely". Her highest single mark was an '8' in the 'free walk medium'.

Congratulations to I'dbedelighted's rider, Cathy Belch of Berryville, VA. She has trained 'Del' to this level and we're thrilled with the results. We look forward to the next show at Fairview on May 28th where 'Del' and Cathy will do a combined test.

In attendance at this show for Wildest Expectations Farm were Christine Smith, Cathy Belch, Jaimee White and Laura Spahn. Thank you to all. We can't show without you!!!

Morven Park Show Results

Thursday, May 4th Wildest Expectations Farm and the Starbuck Ranch competed in the Morven Park Breeding Show with good results. We only took 4 horses this time around and a good time was had by all!

The Yearling Fillies were the first out and Last Romance finished 8th with a score of 61.5%. Not her best performance however they don't always show their best or grow their best at that moment. She was very well behaved however.

The next horse up was Justa Kid's Dream, a 3 YO  Filly. She finished 7th of 10 with a score of 66.8%.

Moving up to the Colts and Geldings, Kaliflorian, 2YO Gelding belonging to the Starbuck Ranch, placed first of 7 with a score of 76.5%. He moved on to the Colts and Geldings Championship class. This was all pretty surprising considering he had injured himself with a large deep cut on his inside right hock. He had some swelling and I'm sure some pain. We hope he'll do better as the season continues.

I'dbedelighted moved up into the ranks of mature mares, Maiden or Yeld this year. She placed 4th out of about 8 or 9 with a score of 71.7%. We scratched her from the under saddle class, Suitable to Become a Dressage Sport Horse, as she was too tired at the end of the day and quite over the event in general.

Christine Smith also showed horses for some other farms. Ghuitar (Tarzan) placed 5th in the 2 YO Colts and Geldings Class with a score of 69.7%. This is a very nice Gelding with lots of personality and great looks. He should come along nicely as the showing season continues. We look forward to the opportunity to show him in other shows this year. He should place increasingly well.  She also showed Imager. He is a 3 YO Stallion with a great disposition. He placed 1st for 3 YO Colts and Geldings, Champion for Colts and Geldings, Champion for all Young Horses and Grand Champion for the whole show over all. His score was the highest of the day at 80.0%. Congratulations to owner, Joan Peyton of Upperville, VA for the great success of this stallion. He is for sale.

Many thanks to the Wildest Expectations Farm show team of volunteers: Christine Smith, Donna Whitcomb (Mgr.), Jaimee White, Andrew Waldo (photographer) and Dale Troxler (her last show before the birth of her first child). There is no way we could show without these wonderful people.

VADA/Nova Show Results

Wildest Expectations Farm and the Starbuck Ranch were showing at the VADA/Nova Breeding Show which is a qualifier for the East Coast Breeders Championship Series. We took four horses; Kaliflorian, I'dbedelighted, Justa Kid's Dream and Last Romance.

Kaliflorian was entered in the 2YO Colts and Geldings class. He placed 2nd with a score of 73.5% and advanced to the C/G Championship. Here he was the Reserve Champion which qualified him for the USDF East Coast Breeders Championship held at Dressage at Devon in September. Christine now has 2 horses which she can show in that class, Kaliflorian and Imager, whom she qualified for Joan Peyton, at the Morven Park Breeding show.

I'dbedelighted placed 5th with her lowest score ever of 63.5% We hope this will improve as the summer progresses. She has had some physical soundness issues and we're working towards a solution for this. Keep an eye on her.  She is a really nice horse.

Justa Kid's Dream placed 5th in a really good class with a score of 70%.  The winner of that class, Par Avion with a score of 74%, belongs to Bernie and Larry Ball's Tall Oaks Farm , good friends of Christine's. We couldn't be happier if we'd won the class ourselves. Justi, did very well and was extremely well behaved. She is maturing really well.

Last Romance also finished 5th (we were going for consistency) with a score of 67%. She is doing the gawky growing thing this spring so we'll give her the rest of the show season off to balance out. Watch for her next year as a 2YO.

Nelly Des Ongrais, our late foundation broodmare, lives on in her offspring. We entered the Produce of Dam class and finished 2nd with a score of 67.5%. Nelly was well represented by I'dbedelighted, Justa Kid's Dream and Last Romance.

Wildest Expectations Farm was also represented by I'dbedelighted, Justa Kid's Dream and Last Romance. They finished 3rd with a score of 68.75% Donna Whitcomb and Karen Sitter joined Christine Smith in the show ring for these group classes.

Thank you to Donna Whitcomb, Karen Sitter, Cathy Belch and Jamie (Karen's friend) for volunteering at the show. This was a great team and our farm was running smoothly and showing well as a result of their hard work.

BFK Show Results

Wildest Expectations Farm Went up to the BFK Breeding Show in Allentown, NJ. We only took one horse and a small crew but a good time was had by all!

Kaliflorian showed in front of Hilda Gurney in the 2 YO colts and Geldings class. He tied for second with a score of 80%. (4th highest score for the whole show) Both the second place 2 YO's and the first place 2 YO were invited back for the championship Colts and Geldings Class. However he was bested there by the same two 2 YO's from his class. The winning score was an 83.5%.

Some of Ms. Gurney's comments were: "Well developed topline, elegant type", "Nice reach and overstep", and "Beautiful braid job"!!! Christine Smith of Wildest Expectations Farm can take the credit for that one and it was nice to be recognized for what might have just been the best braiding she has ever done! :-)

Special thanks to Karen Sitter, who was the entire team with Christine Smith. She took two entire days out of her busy work and social schedule to attend and work this show. Now it's on to Lexington!!

Dressage at Lexington

Wildest Expectations Farm and the Starbuck Ranch had a great time at Dressage at Lexington! We had good results and lots of fun. That show is run really well done and the people who put it together and run it always do a super job.

We took three horses to the show and they were all really well behaved for the whole day. This is of course our primary goal for the horses as this is schooling for them when they go into shows under saddle. It makes such a difference when they are older.

Kaliflorian placed 4th in his class of 10 2YO colts and geldings with a terrific score of 76.8%. He got a 7.8 on his conformation and a 7.8 on his trot also. The judges comments included "correct rhythm", "fluid trot". We did not expect him to place this well or have a score this high because he had a growth spurt prior to the show and was 3-4inches higher behind than in front. He was very down hill that day, but he still managed to not embarrass himself in public.

I'dbedelighted, still coming back from a major muscle disorder (EPSM, which is an inability for the body to process carbohydrates, easily managed with diet modifications) placed 8th of 11 in her maiden/yeld mares class with a score of 66.55% which is one of her lowest scores ever (VADA/Nova being the lowest score of 63.75% which preceded our diagnosis of EPSM by about a week). Some of the judges comments were "ground covering". It was nice to see her making some improvement physically.

Justa Kid's Dream placed 10th of 16 in her class of 3 YO fillies. Her score of 65% was not her best ever by a long shot but her manners were impeccable and that is what we want more than anything (don't get me wrong the ribbons are great, but they're not the big goal)

I'dbedelighted and Justa Kid's Dream represented their late mother, Nelly Des Ongrais in the produce of dam class. Where they placed 4th with a score of 69.74%. Some of the judges collective comments were "well muscled loin and croup", "elastic".

We had a great team there and everyone worked really hard and had a good time as well. Thanks go out to Donna Whitcomb (barn manager), Andrew Waldo (official photographer), Richie Sitter, Karen Sitter, Lindsay Williams, Erin Madison and Cynthia Haughton. No one realizes how hard they work to make these shows run so smoothly. They are what makes Wildest Expectations Farm look good and do well.

PVDA

Just when we thought that Dressage at Lexington couldn't be topped. Along came PVDA! We had a great day there with a few surprises!

Kaliflorian placed third out of 7 entries in the 2 YO Colts and Geldings class with a score of 73.2%. He was only 3 tenths of a point behind the second place colt. Comments included 'smooth topline', 'nice reach', 'suspension, uphill'. Kal's behavior was excellent and I could not have asked for better. This is the main reason we take these youngsters to these shows. The learning experience for them is really good for their minds. They have no problems at shows when they are going to them under saddle.

I'dbedelighted placed first in her class of 4 YO and older Maiden/Yeld Mares with a score of 73.65%. Her comments included 'nice slope and length of shoulder', 'roomy', 'well put together', Good bone and substance'. This was a really nice class of mares, several of which we've shown against in the past. Then, much to our surprise, Del was awarded the Mare Championship which qualified her for the Cosiquin/USDF East Coast Breeder's Championship Series! We like surprises!!

Justa Kid's Dream placed fifth in her class of 3YO fillies with a score of 68.4%. Her comments included 'fairly free', 'steps through', 'straight in front'. The second place filly got a score of 69.6% so it was a very closely scored class of fillies.

We also showed horses for a number of clients. One in particular was Paris for owner Jeannette Leroux. This is a very nice Hannoverian filly who has been chasing the USDF ECBC Series all summer trying to qualify. We went into the ring and came out with a first place finish! When we went to the Fillies Championship Class She won that as well, qualifying her for the Series! It didn't end there for Paris however, she was named Champion Young Horse and was only stopped at the Grand Championship class where the mature stallions dominated the placings. CONGRATULATIONS TO PARIS AND JEANNETTE LEROUX!!! We'll see you at Dressage at Devon.

Thanks to all the people who organize and run that show so well. We love coming to PVDA.

A really big thanks to the team for Wildest Expectations. Donna Whitcomb, Karen Sitter, Jaimee White. Cynthia Haughton, Richie Sitter and Kirsten Maier. I was always in the right place at the right time with the right horse because of these wonderful people. The horses always looked perfect. Thank you.

E.S.D.C.T.A.

Wildest Expectations Farm and The Starbuck Ranch trucked off to Allentown, NJ to the Horse Park of New Jersey. We arrived in good shape at about 10:00 pm due to a bit of traffic and had the horses, I'dbedelighted and Kaliflorian, settled in by about 11:00 pm. The horses travelled well and were happy to be off the trailer.

Kaliflorian was the first one of ours to be on deck in the 2 YO Colts and Geldings class. He placed 2nd in that class out of 6 entries with a score of 68.5%. The winner, Laurie Cameron's Are You Ready, placed 1st with a score of 69%. The two of them went on to the Colts Championship to be Champion and Reserve Champion respectively. This qualified Kal again for the East Coast Breeder's Championship to be held at DAD on Tuesday, September 26. Some of the judges comments included "Good Elasticity".

We are very proud of Kaliflorian for qualifying two times for this prestigious series and congratulate the Starbuck Ranch for breeding such a consistently well placing youngster.

I'dbedelighted competed in the 4 YO and Older Maiden/Yeld Broodmares class. She placed third out of three with a score of 68.45%. This did not disappoint us too badly as she had been three legged lame only a week before and had all her shoes pulled only to be reshod the day before the show. She is recovering nicely and we hope she'll be okay for DAD. Some of the judges comments on Del were, "Well proportioned with well set neck and good big shoulder", "good elasticity, fairly correct, some overstep", "feminine type", "lovely mare". We have high hopes for her on the 26th of Sept in an undersaddle class and again in hand and under saddle on the 27th at DAD.

We went with the fine team of Christine Smith, Karen Sitter and Jaimee White. A great time was had by all and the kids always make the difference. They had the horses out and ready even when timing was really tough due to the size of the classes. Thank you for such a great time in NJ. Oh, and don't forget they both got to drive the big truck. You guys rock! Thank you for making it happen.

Dressage at Devon

Wow! What a great show season to be finishing up at Dressage at Devon!! The team packed up on Monday and when the last of the Team Kids got out of school we headed for Devon, PA. On the crew were Llyn Smith, Karen Sitter, Jaimee White, Suzanne Crammer, Jessica Fiest, Allyson Marco and Christine Smith.

We got the horses settled in by late Monday night in the rain (yuck!) and headed for a short nights sleep to our hotel. Tuesday was really rainy and ugly but we thrive in the face of adversity and were able to ignore the puddles (lakes) by the time the first horse went into the ring! We showed two of our own and those of a few clients on the first day.

Kaliflorian was the first to go slogging along in the mucky arena. He showed fairly well but he hated the slop so I did not expect him to place well. Imagine our surprise when he came in 4th of 19 with a score of 78.1% with judges comments of "correct", "good over track", "one for the future"! I guess there were some horses in his class who liked the rain and mud even less than he did. The competition in his class was very steep indeed.

THIS JUST IN:  Congratulations to Kathlyn Starbuck and Kaliflorian of the Starbuck Ranch for such a consistently well placing 2 year old gelding! It is a pleasure to be able to show such nice horses. He is the Fifth place Two Year Old Colt and Gelding USDF Sport Horse Breeding Horse of the Year for the Year 2000. His median score was 75%. His scores were only recorded after his first 3 shows were already past. If those scores had been used towards this award he might have been second or third in the rankings. Look out for him in 2001, he'll be a force to be reckoned with! Congratulations to all the competitors, their wonderful horses, and a great show season in 2000.

Justa Kid's Dream was the next to show from our barn and she went out and showed herself well. She finished with a score of 68.3% which was not enough to get in the ribbons but we were pleased with her results regardless. Her comments from the judge included "well angled shoulder", "overall nice angle", walk "elastic long steady", "elasticity and swing through back".

Justy continues to be a lovely horse to work with and she has begun her under saddle training now that the 2000 show season is over for in-hand. Watch for her in 2001!

Kaliflorian then competed in the Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Championship Series Class. He had qualified 2 times for that honor and presented himself well. His score to the best of our knowledge was a 69.4% and we're not sure where that placed him in the class overall. We could not have been more proud to be in such excellent company and congratulate the Champion; Rita Morka of Loucky Hagens and Reserve Champion; S. Don Atello of Copper Fox Farm.

On Wednesday, I'dbedelighted showed in the Maiden Mares Class. She was her usual well behaved self and showed very well. She is a princess about mud and was a little stiff as a result. She finished 11th out of 19 competitors with a score of 68.4%. She'll have some time off this winter to mature and relax before the 2001 season when we will decide if she will be bred or show two more seasons.

As is always the case, the team that went to Devon made me so proud I can't come up with words to express my appreciation. Year after year these wonderful people lend their talents and hard work to make Wildest Expectations Farm a force to be reckoned with at each show. They are pleasant, professional and a joy to be associated with. By the time we have shown for a whole season together they don't even need direction and when I am foolish enough to direct, they have already gotten the task done better than I would have requested. Thank You!
